Life cycle

LCA or "ecobalance"

Scientific comparison of impacts
Life-cycle analysis, or ecobalance, is a comparative tool we can use to determine the environmental impacts of different fuel chains over all stages of a product’s life. In this case, the comparison was made between conventional petrol and essEnce5 bioethanol fuel.

All the stages are taken into account:
•    production or extraction of feedstocks
•    transport of feedstocks
•    conversion into fuel
•    distribution
•    combustion (EMPA emission measurements)

Environmental impact criteria:
•    energy amplification (primary MJ/feed unit)
•    greenhouse effect (kg CO2eq/feed unit)
•    acidification kg SO2 eq./feed unit)
•    eutrophication kg PO43- eq./feed unit)
